Key Feature
Toughness without blind spots that lives up to the SW name
Saltwater games are often described as harsher than freshwater games. Salty winds, relentless wave spray, games under the scorching sun with nothing to block the sunlight, and the violent power of unexpected large fish. All of these pose a major threat to anglers and tackles. In other words, the most important thing for saltwater tackles is to be equipped with specifications that can handle such threats, and the fact that the product name is SW is itself a testament to its toughness.
To boldly attack such salt games, the Stradic SW is equipped with an ironclad waterproof structure such as X-Shield (excluding 4000) and X-Protect to reduce the intrusion of seawater. It prevents deterioration of metal parts and corrosion of the internal structure, and maintains initial performance such as smooth rotation for a long time. In addition, the drive system incorporates Infinity Drive and HAGANE gear, and supports powerful fights together with the CI4 round handle knob. It produces a fight with confidence with power and robustness that is not affected by unexpected large fish. In addition, models over 5000 are equipped with X-Tough Drag, which improves not only maximum drag force but also durability and heat dissipation. All for the sake of attacking harsh environments. Confront saltwater with toughness without blind spots.

[ Infinity Cross ]
Advances in gear tooth surface design and manufacturing technology have improved the contact area between the drive gear and pinion gear. As a result, we succeeded in distributing the load on the tooth surface of the gear over a wider area. It prevents intensive damage and damage, and is about twice as durable as the previous design. * Based on our standard gear durability test

When the rod makes a large arc and stops the target from escaping, you put your hand on the handle knob. The power of the hand is not transmitted to the reels. I can't compete... The solution to such moments is the Infinity Drive, which enables powerful winding even under heavy loads. Because of its powerful reels, it can be lowered than what it is usually used to, and as a result, the angler can take the lead in the powerful reel to catch the big game more easily.
Line trouble suppression structure for more comfortable fishing
This is an anti-twist fin that prevents the line from sagging, prevents the line from falling to the bottom of the spool, and reduces the phenomenon of the line being wrapped around the spool while being twisted. This prevents the line from getting entangled in the spool or the unnatural winding that can occur with any spinning reel, which many anglers have experienced so far, making fishing more stress-free.
Improvements
The 4000, which is the smallest in the series, has significantly improved specifications from its predecessor. Of particular note is the inclusion of the Infinity Drive, which makes it even more powerful. The inclusion of Infinity Cross greatly improves the durability of the gears. Although it is a model that mainly uses light games as a battlefield, its toughness boasts specs that are not inferior to large numbers. In addition, in terms of operability, a new anti-twist fin is installed to suppress line troubles. By suppressing sagging, the phenomenon of falling off the line and engulfing the line as it is is reduced, and it is a step forward toward the realization of more comfortable fishing. As with the current model, the handle uses an easy-to-grip CI4 round knob, making it possible to generate maximum power with a small amount of input.
Improved maximum drag value to evolve strategy against big game
The X-Tough Drag, which is installed on models with a number 5000 or higher, is a structure in which each washer inside the drag is made of only metal and carbon, and supports the spool from both above and below. By adding a large-diameter drag washer to the bottom of the spool, the maximum drag value has been upgraded from 12kg to 13kg for the 5000 and 6000 models, 13kg to 16kg for the 8000 model, and 13kg to 15kg for the 10000 model, all of which are upgraded from the previous model. It is now possible to set the drag to stop large fish more easily and reliably than in the previous model. In addition, the durability and heat dissipation of the drag section have been improved by the installation of the X-Tough Drag. The smooth and stable drag performance has been further refined.
An ironclad waterproof structure that reduces the biggest threat, seawater intrusion
Salt is the biggest threat to tackles for saltwater games. In particular, the intrusion of seawater is a major enemy that corrodes the internal structure of the reel and reduces its initial performance. This is where waterproofing becomes important. X-Protect, which is used in the 4000 size, is a waterproof system that focuses on a non-contact structure so as not to impair the lightness of rotation. It is installed in the stopper bearing and line roller, and demonstrates high waterproofing performance. In addition, models with sizes 5000 and above use X-Shield, which provides strong sealing in various places such as the body/lid mating surface and the spool/drag knob contact surface, blocking the intrusion of seawater. X-Protect also uses a contact type with low-sliding seal material, and its ironclad waterproof structure according to the expected scene is expected to maintain the initial performance for a long time.
Impression
By Shimano Professional Field Tester Tsutomu Uetsubara
The first time I wanted to get a SW type reel. The use of the compatibility of 8000 and 10000 spools is also unique to this reel.
With the latest technology from higher-end models, the finer details have been strengthened, making this a more reliable reel than ever before. What I find particularly comfortable to use is the light and smooth feel of the reel while still having a powerful winding force. Not only when fighting with fish, but even when using heavy metal jigs, you can feel the strong pull. I think the 4000 model in particular is one that is often used for light shore jigging, and the ease of winding with the standard round knob means that you can feel the powerful winding force even when fighting with fish that are resisting with a strong pull.
Another feature unique to the Stradic SW is that the 8000 and 10000 spools are the same, which makes it easy to use. For example, by winding different thicknesses of line on each spool, you can quickly switch between them depending on the fishing spot and the fish you are targeting. Also, since the size of the spool affects the reeling speed of the lure, you can instantly make fine adjustments when you want to be particular about the action speed of the lure.
In terms of design, the deep navy blue design is chic and cool, making the whole tackle look compact. The specifications of this reel are substantial and can cover most of what you want to do on the rock shore, but it should also be useful for expeditions to offshore rocks and remote islands.
I think that not only advanced anglers, but also those who are just starting to use SW type reels will find it particularly easy to use. I hope you will enjoy rock shore fishing and target a variety of fish with this reel.
Technology
Hagane
HAGANE is a Shimano reel design concept created to withstand continual use and extreme abuse. HAGANE is an innovation with built-in toughness and durability that works alongside Shimano's precision engineering. HAGANE is for all anglers.
Hagane Gear
With amazing strength and durability, the HAGANE Gear is at the very heart of most Shimano reels.
Shimano, through the application of state-of-the-art technologies, gives anglers the long-lasting smoothness and enjoyment that is felt when anglers first use a reel, repeatedly. No cutting work is applied to the teeth of the drive gear during fabrication; instead, the entire surface is calculated in minute detail by a special 3D design and then formed by Shimano's cold-forging technology. The result is assured resilience. HAGANE Gear is the result of Shimano's endless pursuit for durability — this strength and power of forged metal continue to represent the fundamental concept of Shimano reels.
Micromodule II
The MICROMODULE Gear II has evolved with Shimano's unique manufacturing technology and a state-of-the-art gear-tooth surface design. The drive and pinion gear surfaces have been analyzed and updated from the ground up in Shimano's pursuit of perfection to further improve the smooth gear feeling and reduce sound.
X Ship
X SHIP provides improved gear performance. Large diameter drive gear optimally positioned pinion gear and drive gear, and two points bearings supported pinion gear produce light reeling under load.
Hagane Body
The use of lightweight and rigid metals such as aluminum and magnesium firmly suppresses deflection, distortion, and torsion of the reel. This protects delicate gear meshing and enables smooth reeling.
INFINITYDRIVE
INFINITYDRIVE is a new main shaft supporting structure that improves winding torque and allows for incredibly smooth and light rotation.
Silent Drive
The basic design of the entire body and drive-related parts were reviewed one by one to reduce minute rattles, gaps, and shaking between parts down to the smallest detail. It provides smooth and quiet reel rotation.
Anti Twist Fin
Elastic fins are installed near the line roller section. By suppressing line slack, the fins reduce the phenomenon of line dropping out of the lower part of the spool and line wrapping around the spool while the line is still twisted.
X-Shield
Strong sealing is applied everywhere, including the body-lid mating surface and the spool- drag knob contact area, to block the path of water intrusion. It ensures high reliability and durability in SW games played under harsh conditions.
X-Protect (small ~ medium sized reels)
Shimano's iron-clad waterproof structure.
For small- and medium-sized general-purpose spinning, which requires lighter rotation, we are particular about the non-contact structure so as not to impair the lightness of rotation. In addition to the conventional water-repellent treatment, a labyrinth structure that suppresses water intrusion is combined to achieve high waterproof performance while being non-contact. It is used in stopper bearing parts, line roller parts, etc.
X Protect (large reels)
Shimano's ironclad waterproof structure.
A contact-type waterproof structure is used for large spinning reels that require higher waterproof performance. By physically blocking the ingress of seawater with a low-sliding type seal material, high waterproof performance is achieved while suppressing rotational resistance. It is used in the stopper bearing and line roller parts, and the stopper bearing in particular achieves waterproof standard equivalent to IPX8.
X Tough Drag
Each washer is composed of only metal and carbon, and the spool is supported from both the top and bottom directions. By improving heat resistance and durability, "smooth and stable drag performance" has been refined.
G Free Body
G FREE BODY technology has been developed to shift the reel's center of gravity closer to the rod. By moving the center of gravity closer to the angler’s hand, the G FREE BODY helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
AR-C Spool
The spool has a special spool ring shape. This creates a rectifying effect on the line and realizes both suppression of line trouble and long casting performance.
Long Stroke Spool
The LONG STROKE SPOOL has a longer stroke compared to conventional spool designs. It contributes to improved casting feel and distance.
S A-RB
S A-RB bearings are put through the same process as Shimano’s A-RB bearings but feature shields on both sides of the bearings. These shields reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting the rotation of the bearing
ONE-PIECE BAIL
One-piece bail allows the line to travel unimpeded to the line roller. The seamless design reduces friction and decreases the chance of tangles or the line catching on the bail arm.
